Although I initially wanted to play the cello at the age of six, my parents decided that it was better for me to start playing the piano first. At the age of 11, I switched from keyboard to the cello; it would prove to be the best decision in my life. In 1997, I entered the Royal Conservatory of Ghent, and graduated in Brussels in the class of Viviane Spanoghe. In 2002, I moved to Leipzig, where I studied with Mathias Moosdorf (Leipzig String Quartet) for one year. In the summer of 2003, I met my wife, who was then studying the piano in Paris. It was soon decided that I’d go live and study there, too. From 2004 until 2006, I studied at the Ecole Normale de Musique “Alfred Cortot” in Paris, in the class of Alain Meunier. Beside my studies, I followed master classes with Maria Kliegel, Young-Chan Cho, and Marie Hallynck.

From 2002 on, I have been working as a free-lance cellist on a regular basis with the Belgian National Orchestra (under Mikko Franck), the Royal Opera of Brussels, and the Symphony Orchestra of Flanders. In the summer of 2002, I also had the opportunity to work with Stephany Gonley, leader of the English Chamber Orchestra. One of my biggest passions is playing chamber music with my wife or friends.

Traveling, taking long walks, climbing mountains, reading literature, and (of course) enjoying music are my greatest passions in life.
