Contributor Biography

I was born in Rochester, New York, and educated at Harvard University and Carnegie Mellon School of Music, where my teachers were Bernard Rands, Judith Weir, and Alan Fletcher. I am active primarily as a composer, with a catalogue of published compositions that range from operas to solo instrumental works. Recordings of my music appear on over 30 CD releases on a variety of labels. I am also a concert organist, performing exclusively the repertoire of the 20th and 21st centuries. I have given world premieres of over 100 new works for organ, written by composers both established and emerging from around the world. As a writer, I have focused primarily on American music (both neo-Romanticism and modernism) and the classical music of 20th-century Australian composers. I have also acted as project coordinator and producer for a number of recordings of American music, ranging from the piano sonatas of Vincent Persichetti to operas of John Carbon and Leonardo Balada.
