This year starts off with two real want entries, discs that I want but don’t have. Both are the latest issues in a fascinating and competing series of chant programs of Mass Propers from the temporal cycle. Each is the fifth issue in its series and both focus on Eastertide. James Wood’s collection of sacred music from the Eton Choirbook competes with a larger collection from Coro on five discs, but that should not deter a recommendation of the new disc. The most significant contribution to the Gesualdo quatercentenary this year is the last remaining unrecorded book. Willaert had a 450th anniversary last year, commemorated by two sets of his largely unrecorded
from Singer Pur. There wasn’t room to mention the madrigals three years ago, but the motets deserve a place in the Want List this year.
